Maryland

The Maryland Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) is one of the most progressive programs in North America. In addition to providing  enhanced I/M240 for both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive vehicles and two-speed idle testing for heavy-duty vehicles, ESP manages On-Board Diagnostics (OBDII) and gas cap pressure inspections. The Maryland program inspects more than 1.6 million vehicles annually at 19 testing stations in 14 counties statewide.

ESP has provided vehicle emissions inspections for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) since 1984, while innovating our technology and approach to increase efficiency and maintain MVA’s precedent of customer satisfaction.

Innovative Technology

OBD CommCheck TesterMaryland utilizes Vetronix OBDII testing modules, Real-Time dynamometer equipment, and California Analytical Instruments (CAI) gas analyzers. Providing a highly comprehensive spectrum of test types, we utilize four-wheel-drive dynamometers for appropriate vehicles and reverse-dilution constant volume sampling to simulate actual driving conditions.

More recently, our program has integrated the use of a new tool to ensure accuracy in our OBDII testing lanes. ESP’s proprietary OBD CommCheck Tester is used actively in our testing lanes to verify the integrity of our equipment.

Community relations

ESP in Maryland has established the Environmental Systems Products Endowed Scholarship Fund at Morgan State University in Baltimore. This scholarship fund recently eclipsed a half million dollars in support since 2000.

ESP supports many other Baltimore charities and associations, including: The Pimlico Road Youth Program, The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum, the Druid Hill YMCA, Bon Secours, The American Lung Association, and The National Center for Children and Families.
