Location: Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley area
Network and Program Size:
The AirCare program inspects over 500,000 vehicles a year. The inspection network is comprised of 32 testing lanes in 10 stations. ESP’s Canadian subsidiary, Envirotest Canada, has operated the program since September 1992.
Project Management:
We worked with the government oversight (Pacific Vehicle Testing Technologies, or PVTT), to retrofit the stations with new test equipment, hardware and software in 1999, 2000 and 2006. The major program upgrades, including changes in program design requested by the PVTT, were completed on budget and on schedule, while testing continued.
Innovative Technology
The AirCare program features state-of-the-art technology. With an online network connection to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, each lane is equipped with multiple computer terminals used to access vehicle identification data, perform the emissions test and print test results. The entire process is completed within 15 minutes.
All equipment, systems and procedures consistently meet or exceed specifications, resulting in a 99.9% pass rate for all quality assurance checks. Our equipment/system uptime record rates over 99%.
Community Relations
We work intimately with the PVTT to develop and implement proactive and strategic public relations and communications plans aimed at informing motorists, key stakeholders, the automotive repair industry and the public about air quality issues and benefits of the AirCare program.
Repair Industry Support
We helped develop RepairNet - an extranet site linking the AirCare Certified Repair Industry with the AirCare host system. RepairNet allows repair facilities to access current and past test records on vehicles and fully automates the tracking system on repaired vehicles.
