ESP's remote sensing technology offers convenient, accurate and reliable vehicle emissions inspections. AccuScanâ„¢ Remote Sensing Devices (RSDs) deliver excellent results for cleaning the air and providing data for program and fleet evaluation.
RSD Services:
- Clean Screen -- AccuScan instantly identifies low-polluting, clean-running vehicles allowing motorists the time-saving convenience of skipping their next scheduled trip to a traditional emissions testing station. Emissions data is unobtrusively captured in less than a second without impeding a vehicle's progress as it travels along a roadway.
- High Emitter Notification -- AccuScan is able to identify the worst polluting vehicles in the same way that clean vehicles are identified. RSDs provide options for addressing the vehicles causing the majority of air quality problems by utilizing a cost-effective, convenient emissions reduction strategy that focuses on "gross polluters" rather than entire fleets.
- Heavy Duty/Diesel Testing & Fleet Monitoring -- RSDs use ultraviolet and infrared light to measure harmful pollutants (HC, NO, and PM). AccuScan is able to accurately measure heavy duty diesel emissions which contain harmful PM 2.5 that scientists have linked to coronary and respiratory disease. Remote sensing is the most advanced way to monitor and help diagnose emissions-related problems with heavy-duty vehicles without taking them out of service.
- Fraudulent Test/Repair Activity Detection -- Data collected in on-road applications can highlight discrepancies between decentralized emissions inspection facilities where ASM results appear low while corresponding RSD results appear high.
- Inspection & Maintenance Program Performance Evaluation -- RSDs allow for the measurement of:
- the effectiveness of I/M programs.
- the evaluation of entire fleets in geographic areas comparing emissions of vehicles from I/M and non-I/M areas.
- the impact vehicles registered outside of a testing region (e.g. commuters or tourists) have on air quality within a program area.
